Clinics & Services
The clinics are run by the midwifery team, and all appointments take place at Wetherby Children’s Centre.
We offer dedicated Asthma and COPD clinics led by our specially trained Practice Nurses, who have extensive experience in the management of respiratory conditions.
Regular reviews are an important part of managing asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). These appointments help ensure that your condition remains well controlled, your medication is working effectively, and any concerns can be identified and addressed promptly.
Our clinics are weekly and provide an opportunity to review your symptoms, inhaler technique, treatment plan, and overall respiratory health.
Appointments are booked specifically 6 week baby examinations (with a GP) and childhood vaccinations (with a nurse). Please speak with a receptionist if you need to book one of these appointments.
We have specially trained staff who are able to take blood for testing. There are clinics available at both Collingham and Thorner Surgeries.
We provide a full family planning service. All the doctors and practice nurses are happy to provide family planning advice during their usual consultation times. Smear tests are offered to all women where appropriate. Some of the GPs provide a full service including IUCD (coil fitting) and contraceptive implants.
Clinics are held by our nurses supported by a doctor.
Our in-house GP dispensary services at Collingham and Thorner are here to make managing your medication easier, safer, and more convenient. By using our dispensary service, you can collect your medication directly from the practice — often saving an extra journey to the pharmacy.
We can dispense to those patients who live more than 1 mile (1.6 km) “as the crow flies” from a community pharmacy. This includes most patients living in Scarcroft, Thorner, Bardsey, East Keswick and Harewood. If you are unsure whether you are eligible for our dispensing pharmacy, then please ask a member of staff.
We offer:
- Fast prescription turnaround times, usually within 3 working days
- Friendly, knowledgeable staff who work closely with your GP team
- A reliable home delivery service for appropriate patients
- Dossett boxes for those patients struggling to manage their medications
Whether you require regular repeat prescriptions or an acute medication following a GP appointment, our dispensary team is committed to providing a smooth, efficient, and personal service for our patients.
If you would like to find out more about our dispensary services, including delivery or dosette box support, please speak to reception or a member of the dispensary team.
We are able to inject a wide variety of joints for various conditions (including but not exclusive to osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, capsulitis of the shoulder, plantar fasciitis and subacromial bursitis). Our joint injection service is free of charge. If you and your GP agree that you require a joint injection you will be referred to one of our skilled GPs for assessment and an injection. We use sterile single-use instruments and follow aseptic techniques to ensure the lowest possible risk of infection and the best possible results from our joint injection service. Dr Eyre and Lewis Johnson can undertake joint injections.
Please Note: Joint injections are offered as routine, non-urgent appointments. As these appointments require a suitably trained clinician, there may be a wait of several weeks before an appointment becomes available.
The clinic combines the overall care for diabetes and coronary heart disease with other vascular conditions such as high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, peripheral arterial disease and cerebrovascular disease (strokes and TIAs). The reason for this is that many of the checks and tests are the same, and many patients have more than one of these conditions.
Furthermore; we have developed this clinic in a scheme called “Year of Care”. This works in a step wise manner with an initial appointment with the health care assistant and then a follow up “care planning” appointment with the nurse 2 weeks later. Between these two appointments; you will receive a copy of your results and be able to compare them to previous ones and think about what goals you want to work on to help improve your health. In some cases; you may need an appointment with the GP for a medication review or to discuss any other concerns relating to your long term condition. We hope this system will add more to your long term care and motivation to succeed in improving your health outcomes.
The NHS Health Check is a national programme designed to help identify and reduce the risk of developing common health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, and dementia.
Patients aged 40 to 74 years who do not already have certain long-term health conditions are invited to attend a Health Check every five years

Immunisations
We encourage all patients, especially children, to keep their vaccinations up to date to ensure protection against serious infectious diseases. If you are unsure whether you or your child are fully immunised, our doctors and nurses will be happy to advise.
Travel immunisations
We also provide travel health advice and a range of travel vaccinations for patients travelling abroad. Please contact the practice well in advance of your trip for further information.
We recommend a check up following childbirth at 6 weeks to monitor blood pressure and discuss contraception. Please request a double appointment with the GP when arranging your post natal check.
If you’ve been off sick for more than 7 days
If you are off work due to illness for more than 7 consecutive days, your employer will usually require a Fit Note (also known as a Statement of Fitness for Work). Fit Notes are sometimes referred to as medical certificates, doctor's notes, or sick notes.
If you have already discussed your condition with us
If you have recently seen a GP at the practice regarding the condition for which you require a Fit Note, or if we have received relevant information from a hospital or another healthcare professional, you may not need a further appointment. In some cases, a GP may be able to assess your request over the telephone, depending on your circumstances and medical history.
If we have not assessed your condition
If you have not previously consulted a GP at the practice about your illness and we have not received any supporting information from another healthcare professional, you will need an appointment before a Fit Note can be issued.
How to request a Fit Note
To request a Fit Note, please submit an administrative request through AccuRx Online Patient Triage.
Sick/Fit notes can only be issued when they are due. They may be backdated where clinically appropriate but cannot be issued for future dates. Please do not request an appointment solely for a Fit note. Urgent appointments are reserved for medical emergencies.
If you’ve been off sick for 7 days or less
If you’re off work sick for 7 days or less, your employer should not ask for medical evidence that you’ve been ill. Instead, they can ask you to confirm that you’ve been ill. You can do this by filling in a form yourself when you return to work. We call this self-certification.
Find out more about sick notes on the NHS website.

Blood Tests
A blood test is when a sample of blood is taken for testing in a laboratory. Blood tests have a wide range of uses and are one of the most common types of medical test. For example, a blood test can be used to:
- assess your general state of health
- confirm the presence of a bacterial or viral infection
- see how well certain organs, such as the liver and kidneys, are functioning
A blood test usually involves the phlebotomist taking a blood sample from a blood vessel in your arm and the usual place for a sample is the inside of the elbow or wrist, where the veins are relatively close to the surface. Blood samples from children are most commonly taken from the back of the hand. The child's hand will be anaesthetised (numbed) with a special cream before the sample is taken.
You can find out more about blood tests, their purpose and the way they are performed on the NHS website.
X-Rays
An X-ray is a widely used diagnostic test to examine the inside of the body. X-rays are a very effective way of detecting problems with bones, such as fractures. They can also often identify problems with soft tissue, such as pneumonia or breast cancer.
If you have an X-ray, you will be asked to lie on a table or stand against a surface so that the part of your body being X-rayed is between the X-ray tube and the photographic plate.
An X-ray is usually carried out by a radiographer, a healthcare professional who specialises in using imaging technology, such as X-rays and ultrasound scanners.
You can find out more about x-ray tests, how they are performed, their function and the risks by visiting the NHS website.
Our Practice Nurses offer travel health advice and travel vaccinations to help protect you when travelling abroad.
As travel health recommendations change frequently, we advise all patients to seek advice well in advance of their departure date. Please note that some travel vaccinations may be subject to a charge.
Do you need vaccinations?
Our Nurses can provide comprehensive travel health advice and arrange for appropriate immunisations. Please arrange an appointment for a travel consultation at least 6-8 weeks before departure if possible. Vaccines need time to take effect and some may require a course over several weeks.
Travel Assessment
We offer a full travel advice and immunisation service. If you are travelling abroad please complete and submit the travel form in plenty of time (we recommend 6-8 weeks) before your journey.
